My summary on OBX LSDs

- They're cheap and cheerful
- Made of some "Chinesium" type material with typical rough casting etc
- You effectively do the manufacturers quality control for them when you receive the unit by stripping, inspecting, cleaning etc.
- Absolutely change the washers and bolts and do the rebuild, it's cheap, easy and at least goes some way to improving reliability. We got ours from Rich who is a really great guy to deal with

- What you save in up front cost is offset by time and effort to get them right.
- There's a lot of horror stories on the 'net and plenty of success stories as well. Some people will break them, but then again I know people that can break an anvil with their face.

We've run an upgraded (as above) OBX behind a BT 1.8T for the last 1000 odd kms (err, 650ish miles) including some track work and it's all good so far. How long will it last though? No idea.

FWIW my opinion is if you're after cheap, you're a bit DIY minded and you're willing to take a calculated risk then go for it. If you're paying someone to do all the work and you want reliability then pay the extra and buy a proven product you can just have fitted and go driving.
